Its high level of efficiency and effectiveness means that its management levels are comparable to the most advanced countries in the world.
The whole value chain is well represented with two manufacturers (OEMs), namely Mercedes Benz (Daimler) and Irizar (bus and coach manufacturer) and a large number of components companies that work with the leading international manufacturers.
The Mercedes Benz factory in Vitoria-Gasteiz, with a staff of 4,505 workers, has an excellent network of local suppliers and is extremely competitive. It produces luxury people carriers and vans (Vito and ‘Class V’), with an annual production of more than 120,000 vehicles, 90% of which are exported.
More than 45% of the production volume of Spain’s car industry takes place in the Basque Country.

The AIC-Automotive Intelligence Center is a unique value-generation center for the automotive sector based. AIC-Automotive Intelligence Center is managed by ACICAE-Basque Country Automotive Cluster and is located in Bilbao (Amorebieta-Etxano and Ermua).

It is considered to be one of the first clusters to be set up in Europe with the support of the Basque Government and following Professor Porter’s methodology. Since then it has evolved rapidly contributing to the four-fold increase in turnover of the Basque automotive industry over the past fifteen years, exceeding 10 billion euros.

Gestamp is a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of metal components for the major car makers. In 2015 their turnover was €7,000M and they employ 33,000 workers worldwide. They are present in 20 countries, and they have 95 industrial plants and 12 R&D centres.
Global provider of components and subassemblies for the automotive market. They offer integration of a full range of different technologies in key global automotive markets. €2,631.5 million in turnover and 14,335 employees at the end of 2015.
