Basque Venture Capital Management (Gestión de Capital Riesgo del País Vasco) is a venture capital entity management company founded in 1985 by the Basque Government, through SPRI, to promote and develop venture capital activity in the Basque Country.
And since then we have been making the Basque industrial fabric more dynamic by taking a temporary shareholding in the capital of Basque companies.
We invest with special emphasis in entrepreneurship projects with a high innovative content, projects aligned with European RIS3 strategies and projects that promote the internationalization, growth and innovation of Basque companies.
A country commitment
The Basque Government considers that it is essential for Basque companies to have access to appropriate financing to enhance their competitiveness. From that point of view, the venture capital funds that we manage are a tool that reinforces their own funds, resulting in a greater ability to obtain long-term external funds and increasing their economic and financial stability.
Because we do not only offer financial support, we also collaborate in the management of the company.
The participation of entities managed by Basque Venture Capital Management involves the periodical development of strategic plans and management plans. Therefore, seriousness and rigour are added in procedures and strategies.
Public organizations, in performing their function and in response to their responsibility to society, should strive to ensure the transparency of information, an issue which is as or more critical than in private companies.+ info
The investment strategy is aligned with the smart specialization strategy defined by the Basque Government, seeking, as a matter of priority, companies in the fields of Advanced Manufacturing and Biosciences (Life Sciences).
We invest exclusively in companies with their registered office and tax domicile in the Basque Country that have a project for the future but need strong support in order to implement it.
Likewise, the funds we manage invest with a time horizon of between 5 and 10 years, both in newly created companies and in already established companies with an expansion or development plan. In the latter case, there might be diverse situations:
Investment in industrial companies and industry-related services.
Innovative companies with high growth potential.
Companies with new business/market investment and development projects.
Promotes worker participation in all areas of the company.
Enables company financing to be improved for project promotion, maintenance and development, by combining capital, labour and knowledge in a committed manner.
Companies related with Advanced Manufacturing.
