BATTBELT: mechanical management of batteries to improve their performance
Project fact sheet

Vertical: Cleaner energies
Project description
Current li-ion batteries need a certain degree of compression for their optimum performance.
However, the current paradigm of their mechanical management is not able to control that pressing and its evolution, which negatively impacts their charging capability and remaining life.
Battbelt allows the internal pressure and its evolution to be controlled for a better performance, using smart superelastic materials. Batteries are thus achieved with 30% greater life and 5% better volumetric density, with no added cost to the current solutions.
Tagline: New compression system for lithium batteries that improves their performance and extends their lifespan
Financing needs: €1.4 million – TOTAL USES (2024-2026). At least €0.4 million is expected to be obtained in subsidies and loans.
Needs: investments, staff, and operating, marketing and R&D costs set out in BTV report.
Market
Li-ion battery market. Sector: automotive and stationary storage, due to their need to increase effective cycles and their energy density while lowering costs, to be able to offer products with increasingly longer warranty periods.
Potential customers: Fagor Ederlan, CEF, Battera, Cegasa, Nomad, Akasol, Solitek, ABB, BMZ.
