Evento presencial > Internacionalización Global Smart Grid Challenges ENLIT welcome event 17/11/2025 / 17:20 a 20:30

17th November, 2025

The event will be held entirely in English. · El evento se desarrollará íntegramente en inglés.

Context:

Electricity grids around the world are facing growing challenges: system saturation, obsolete infrastructure, adaptation to the energy transition and management of demand peaks that compromise supply stability.

In the Basque Country, the electricity system — integrated into the peninsular grid operated by Red Eléctrica de España (REE) — is moving forward in this global context with strategic projects. Among these, the new interconnection between the Iberian Peninsula and France, via the Basque Country, stands out. It will add 2 GW of cross-border capacity and reinforce energy security and stability.

The Basque Government has also managed to incorporate its priorities into the 2025-2030 Transmission Network Plan, which will enable progress in electrification, decarbonise industry and attract new investment and quality employment.

The energy transition is transforming the classic distribution model. Distribution System Operators (DSOs) are evolving towards smart, digital and flexible networks capable of integrating distributed generation, storage and prosumers into a more efficient and resilient system.

Purpose:

On the occasion of ENLIT, Basque Trade & Investment and the BasquEnergy Cluster will present the capabilities of the Basque Smart Grids sector in an international scenario marked by remarkable growth.

In addition to welcoming the participating international delegations, the meeting will offer companies first-hand information on the main challenges and opportunities in the field of Smart Grids in different strategic markets.

The conference will address new investments in national grids, the energy development plans of the main electricity companies and other key aspects of the sector. There will also be a high-level debate on the evolution of smart grids in five countries, with the participation of leading DSOs who will share their vision of the needs, challenges and opportunities in a context of growing demand for the resilience of electricity grids.

The event will conclude with an informal gathering (cocktail party) aimed at encouraging initial contacts and the establishment of business alliances among attendees.
