Tubos Reunidos, whose main plant in Amurrio has 950 employees, and which also has plants in Trapagaran (Biscay/Bizkaia) and Pamplona, has opened its new factory in the Subillabide industrial estate, located ten minutes from Vitoria. The factory is the result of the alliance signed a year ago with its Japanese partner Marubeni-Itochu Tubulars Europe.
The investment to be carried out in the first phase amounts to €30M and has meant the incorporation of 80 workers, most of them skilled to operate very sophisticated machining facilities. The product that leaves this new Tubos Reunidos factory will have a high technological value, in particular threaded tubes intended for drilling and production in oil and gas wells. Tubing produced in Amurrio will be finished at Subillabide with ‘premium’ threads, which are protected by patents and offer higher than standard performance. The Subillabide industrial facility is designed to process and thread 30,000 tonnes of tubing a year, a very significant figure considering that production in Amurrio is 220,000 tonnes per year.
