The Mercedes-Benz factory in Vitoria, one of the most important plants in the Basque Country, with 3,500 direct employees and 17,000 indirect jobs, expects to set a production record of 126,00 vehicles next year, El Correo newspaper has reported.

The company expects to close this year with the production of 98,000 units, of which almost 28,000 units of the new V-Class premium MPV, the replacement for the Viano, will be manufactured, together with about 69,500 units of the new Vito commercial vehicle.

The awarding of these new models has been the main cause behind the take-off in production at the German multinational’s plant in the Basque Country. In fact, demand for the luxury V-Class already accounts for more than 27% of the volume of orders that arrive in Vitoria. And its sales are 25% higher than the previous Viano vehicle.

500 temporary workers were hired between June and September, a figure that will surely rise early next year the operational programme comes into effect.
