The first of 35 trains which will form part of the city’s new metro fleet and which have been designed by the Basque company LKS Diara Design have been put into operation by Shanghai suburban transport.
The design was performed by LKS Diara Design as a part of a project for train manufacturer CNR, resulting in this new model, characterised by a dominant formal line of the exterior design, which runs smoothly across the front, wrapping it as the Yangtze River does when passing through Shanghai. The project aims to symbolise the duality between tradition and modernity, one of the identity features of the city whose centenary character converges with its projection of progress and modernity.
In addition, this new model is 20% lighter than the units currently running on the Shanghai subway, so the energy efficiency of public transport is improved and environmental impact is reduced.
The model designed for the Shanghai metro is another addition to the company’s constantly growing catalogue of references, giving it a consolidated position as a team with international prestige in the field of transportation design.
