Gerdau studies how to use the residual energy in the entire production cycle

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

The Gerdau R&D excellence centre is involved in a new European project to make use of waste energy, to analyse how the waste energy in large industrial systems can be used, taking into consideration the entire energy cycle.

The aim is to improve the energy efficiency of industrial processes with high energy demand, like in the case of Gerdau, through the design of innovative solutions based on cogeneration systems to produce electricity, starting with the waste energy from these production processes.

This project is included in the Horizon 2020 programme, which is due to last four years. A total of eight proposals were presented within its category but only this project has been approved, which highlights its interest.
