The engineering and technology group SENER won the Engineering Company of the Year prize at the first edition of The European Energy Awards 2013, awarded by The European magazine. The magazine highlighted the innovative spirit of this technology group.
The European Energy Awards recognise SENER’s track record in its more than a half-century of activity, which have “provided solutions and products that represent the cutting-edge of innovation in an array of sectors”.
SENER has received this award for such innovative projects as the Gemasolar solar thermal plant. Located in Seville, it is the first commercial central tower power plant in the world with a molten salt storage system and the only solar plant capable of producing electricity for 24 hours non-stop. Last summer, Gemasolar achieved continuous production operating round the clock for 36 consecutive days.
As its President, Jorge Sendagorta, says, “SENER feels on solid ground when we achieve differentiated technological solutions, and this is why we insist on recruiting and developing the talent of our 5,500 highly skilled professionals, mostly engineers, and also keep investing around 6.5% per cent of our income in R&D&I”.
