In recent years the R&D team at Fagor Automation has developed several specific features for the aerospace industry using the CNC 8055 and CNC 8065 platforms. Both platforms have been reinforced to achieve the high level performance capability required by aerospace manufacturers. The feature that enables higher machining speed and accuracy to be attained, specially required for manufacturing composites, is noteworthy.
Standing out among the numerous features developed by the Fagor Automation R&D team is the HSSA (High Speed Surface Accuracy) System, enabling high speed machining to be performed with great surface accuracy. This feature, combined with others and specific algorithms such as tilt plane vector compensation, allow very high accuracy and resolutions to be obtained.
As of 2014, Fagor Automation has successfully installed CNC systems in the main production facilities of the aerospace industry leaders.
The North American aerospace industry generates between $130 and $200 billion per year and contributes $300 – $350 billion annually to the economy. Advanced technologies in aerospace and defence, such as testing, measuring, composites, high speed machining, rapid prototyping and alternative cutting technologies, have an impact on materials manufacturing for aeronautics, naval, space and land-based systems. It is estimated that activities such as defence electronics and materials manufacturing will experience considerable growth in the next six or seven years.
