Basque Lehendakari (President) Iñigo Urkullu defended industry as the driver that generates wealth and employment during his visit to the plant operated by the multinational Bombardier in Trapagaran (Biscay/Bizkaia). Urkullu, who was accompanied by Arantxa Tapia, Basque Government Minister for Economic Development and Competitiveness, highlighted Bombardier participation in dual vocational training programmes, “the route” to the first practical work experience for young people.

The Bombardier plant in Trapagaran has 180 employees and is dedicated to assembling and supplying propulsion and electric traction systems for the railway sector. The company has provided propulsion systems for Spain, Portugal, Italy and Latin America.

Bombardier Trapaga has produced the motors for the Italian Zefiro high speed train, the fastest in service in Europe, built by the Biscayan plant in collaboration with Ansaldo Breda.
