The French multinational Suez Environnement will draw on the resources of its Bilbao technology centre to undertake the project for the largest desalination plant on the American continent, a contract valued at 430 million euros, to be built in Mexico. Business journal Cinco Días reports that the order involves the construction of a plant to produce 380,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day in Playas de Rosarito, located in the Mexican state of Baja California. This area has major water supply problems due to decreased water flow in the Colorado River.

327 professionals work at the multinational’s technology centre in Bilbao, of whom about 20 were responsible for preparing the technical and commercial proposal that finally won the project.

Suez Environnement generated total revenues of €15.1 billion last year and has a workforce of 82,500 employees. It is currently responsible for ensuring that 92 million people are supplied with water drinking.
