Bombardier Transportation will build 40 new OMNEO Premium double deck EMUs (electrical multiple units) for the French region of Normandy, valued at 585 million euros, whose propulsion equipment will be manufactured at the Trápaga factory in Biscay/Bizkaia. The order is part of the contract signed in 2010 with the French railway operator SNCF to supply of up to 860 double deck trains for French regions.

The new trains, which will come into service by the end of 2019, will enable Normandy to increase the capacity of its fleet by more than 20% (more than 100 additional seats), up to 470 seats per train, on the Paris-Rouen-Le Havre and Paris-Caen-Cherbourg lines.

The roof mounted traction and auxiliary converters for these 40 EMUs, which will be made in Spain, are a special development for these double deck trains for the French market and adapted to speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour.
