Multinational steel manufacturing corporation ArcelorMittal is to undertake an ambitious investment plan at its factory in Etxebarri (Bizkaia) later this year to manufacture a new type of steel. It is a product that provides improved mechanical properties, with greater hardness and longer life, reports business journal Empresa XXI. These features make it an optimal product for lids and rings for easy-open tinplate containers.
The new investments will consist of modifying the continuous annealing furnace and will coincide with the third phase of modernizing the line, in which the furnace control equipment will be replaced.
The Etxebarri plant improvements are part of the €100m investment plan for the factories in the so-called Asturias Cluster, aimed at promoting products such as tinplate, railway rails, wire rod and thick plate.
