Estíbaliz Hernáez, Basque Government Vice-Minister for Technology, Innovation and Competitiveness, accompanied Allan Connolly, President and CEO of Aclara, at the opening of the company’s new Headquarters for International Operations. Located in Bilbao, the new facility also will house the company’s IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) electric meter development centre.
Aclara Technologies and its subsidiaries including Aclara Meters (collectively “Aclara”), are leading suppliers of smart infrastructure and metering solutions to electric, gas and water utilities. The company has made a significant investment in its Bilbao facility, which is of great strategic importance in the company’s international expansion plans.
Aclara began operations in Bilbao in December 2015 as part of the acquisition of the electricity meters business of the GE Grid Solutions Energy Management subdivision (“GE Meters”). Today the company employs more than fifty people in Bilbao and this number is expected to increase with the planned international expansion.
